Gotademo.com’s April Contest Helps a Beleaguered Homeowner Devastated by a House Fire
|
CHICAGO, April, 2008 – After a fire destroyed much of her home, Chicago’s Yanette Outlaw, a fitness trainer who also used the home to run her business, was left without a means to provide for her family and without a proper living space.
Outlaw turned to Gotademo.com, where visitors who viewed video of her story selected her as the winner of the website's monthly contest for April, designed to help a beleaguered homeowner to restore or rebuild their home with a cash prize of $1,000.
Gotademo.com enlisted the services of Will Dubose, a Chicago-based interior designer whose work has been featured on networks such as HGTV. Dubose consulted with Outlaw and restored her master bedroom, giving her a starting point from which to rebuild the rest of the home.
Video of Outlaw’s story is available online at www.gotademo.com, and includes footage of the bedroom before and after the redesign.
Voters also selected 22-year-old Olga El, a belly dancer and graduate student from New York City, as the second place winner for her demo titled “Dancing Diety.” Third place went to Barbara Glick, a 52-year-old resident of Forest Hills, New York for her reading of “George Washington,” an original poem.
“Best of Gotademo.com,” the website’s next contest, will include submissions from vocalists from across the country. Submission details will be available online soon, and winners will be announced on June 1.
